Beef and butter fat fast – day one

Introduction to fat fasting

The beef and butter fat fast like other fat fasts is only recommended if you want to get out of a plateau, begin a ketogenic eating plan or recover after a carb-overload. I plan on doing this fat fast for five days. I’m including the link so that you can begin your own reading into this protocol.

Important: Do not do this without doing your own personal research. I am not a medical doctor or dietitian.

Advice before starting: Plan. Research. Prepare mentally because it is not going to be easy.

I’m embarking on the beef and butter fat fast because I have been on a weight loss plateau since the 30th of June. Research and planning done, yesterday I went shopping and stocked up.

I’ll post photos of everything I’m using in terms of ingredients and tell you all that I’ve done.

Start: the beef and butter fat fast

My start weight this morning – day one – was 175 3/8th lbs. My long term-goal is to lose 50 lbs and be what I weighted when I met my husband in Koszalin, Poland in 2004. For the fat fast my goal is to break of out my plateau and get my body back into fat-burning mode.

I plan on weighting myself every morning on this plan so that you can see how I do. I’ll also weight myself a few days after I get off the plan at the end of five days and see if I can keep the weight I loose off.

I began the fat fast after a night of intermittent fasting. I began fasting (clean, water only) yesterday at 16.58 in the afternoon and broke my fast this morning at 9.58 after 17 hours of fasting. My normal eating protocol since the 31st of May has been to do OMAD (one meal a day) so a 17 hour fast was very easy for me.

To break my clean fast: 9.58. I had a double espresso with 1 tbsp coconut oil, and 1 tbsp butter.

Grass-fed butter

When I went to the shop yesterday, they didn’t have unsalted grass fed-butter, so I had to get the salted variety. This made the coffee taste horrid, I won’t lie, but I’m treating this fat fast just as I would a medical intervention. I need to loose weight for my health. If I were in hospital, I would take the medicine I was given. I wouldn’t complain – and so, in that frame of mind, I just drank it down like I would a vile-tasting medicine. Not for the fainthearted, but I want to loose the weight and don’t mind suffering for five measly days to get out of this plateau.

Meal prep: 12.45. I cooked up 1 kg of minced Irish beef. I used a little bit of coconut oil in the wok, added 1 tsp of ginger paste and 1 tsp of garlic paste. I then added the beef and then cooked it up with 2 tsp of cumin powder, 2 tsp of coriander powder, 2 tsp paprika powder, seasoned with pink Himalayan salt and ground black pepper.

Lunch. 1 cup beef, 2 tbsp butter and 1/2 an avocado

Lunch: 13.00. I won’t lie – although I used spices and seasoning, the beef with so much butter and half an avocado was not nice. I didn’t enjoy it and found it ridiculously greasy. Nonetheless, I forced down the cup of beef and hope that I’ll get used to eating so much butter by the end of these 5 days.

14.25: The food is still sitting heavy on my stomach almost an hour and half later. I really don’t know how I’m going to manage to have the second meal of the day later on.

The positive news is that I’m going to try upping the seasoning for the next meal and see how that works out.

Dinner: The plan is to have more of the same – another cup of beef, but this time without the half an avocado and replace the needed fats with more butter. That means, 1 cup beef, 3 tbsp butter.

I hope to eat by about 17.00 at the latest, so that I can do another 16+ hour intermittent fast over-night.

Currently it is 16.25 in the afternoon and the beef and butter are in the microwave heating up. I really have no hunger, and the thought of eating is repulsive. But I’m going to try, and then at 17.00 close my eating window for the day. If I don’t manage to eat the entire cup of beef and butter, so be it.

Its 16.47 and I’ve restarted my clean fast for the day. I just about managed half a cup of beef and butter. So hard to get more into me. Although I must admit the taste was a bit more palatable the second time around.

I shall keep you posted and insert pictures later tonight. And I’m looking forward to seeing if there’s any change on the scales tomorrow.
